Geraniaceae (Geranium) |
The Geraniaceae (7 genera and 841 species) are distributed nearly worldwide, but are most diverse in South Africa. The majority occurs in temperate and subtropical regions, or tropical mountains. These are herbs or subshrubs with opposite or alternate lobed leaves. The flowers are symmetrical, with five petals, and usually grouped in cymes, umbels or spikes. The fruit is a schizocarp made of 3-5 achenes.
